How To Send Photos in Full Resolution from Your iPhone

 HowTo, iPhone, Photography     No comments

Even though your iPhone snaps pictures at pretty decent resolutions (2048x1536 from the 3GS, 1600x1200 on previous iPhone versions), your device automatically resizes photos to a measly 800x600 when you go to email them. Here's how to fix that.

How To Create Free iPhone Ringtones Using iTunes In Windows

HowTo, iPhone, iTunes, Ringtones     No comments

One of the things that Apple hasn't made easy for iPhone owners is providing a way to create custom ringtones in Windows. Apple doesn't provide that application on Windows. Instead what they expect you to do is purchase a song for $0.99, and then convert it to a ringtone for another $0.99.

As it turns out in a few steps you can actually convert a DRM-free song into a ringtone using only iTunes in Windows. The trick also works for Mac users, but using GarageBand is a lot simpler so we're focusing primarily on the Windows side.
Here's what you need to do:

  1. Start iTunes and find the [DRM-free] song you want to convert to a ringtone. Right-click on it and select the Get Info option.
  2. On the Options tab locate the Start Time and End Time options. This is where you want to s

The “Verizon iPhone” Vs. “The iPhone On Verizon’s Network”

 iPhone, Technology, Verizon     No comments

OREM, UT - NOVEMBER 5: A manager holds an App...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
If you think back to 2005, you’ll remember that the Motorola RAZR phone was all the rage. Not entirely unlike the iPhone today, it was the sleek phone that everyone wanted. But if you happened to be on the largest carrier in the U.S., Verizon, you couldn’t get one. Again, sound familiar?

It wasn’t until just about a year later that a version (the V3c) finally came to Verizon. It was a long wait, but I was excited to finally have access to the device, I pre-ordered one the first day I could. When I finally got it, there were some surprises in store. Rather than having the same colorful user interface that my friends’ RAZRs (on other networks) had, it had some god-awful red proprietary UI made by Verizon itself. It also came with the added bonus of having Bluetooth file transfer capabilities disabled by Verizon. And it was loaded to the brim with Verizon’s V CAST garbage.

the market which can be worn on the wrist.

It is functionally similar to the iPod and iPhone and also boasts a 'multi-touch' screen, allowing more than one finger to be used on the screen at once.

The tiny player measures just 1.48 inches by 1.61 inches by 0.35 inches and weighs a mere 21 grams, reports the Daily Mail.

The iWatch, the latest addition to the iPod family, boasts a clock face which appears with the flick of a button but still allows users to view pictures and track your movements.

Its battery life is also impressive, with 24 hours of music playback in addition to an FM radio.

Nokia is changing CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasavuo, who was not capable to address the phone-maker's loss of the smartphone crown so far. Stephen Elop, who worked with Microsoft Corp, is joining Nokia in the place of Olli-Pekka Kallasavuo. Nokia couldn't compete with iPhone, Android, RIM in making of smartphones in last 5 years.

Mr.Elop said "My role as leader of Nokia is to lead this team through the period of change, take the organization through this period of disruption…to meet the needs of its customers, while delivering superior financial performance,” Mr. Elop said at a news conference in Helsinki, reports the WSJ" in Helsinki.

Mr.Elop was working in Microsoft Corp as a Head of business division. He starts on September 21, at a tricky time – Nokia World  (the firm’s annual talkfest London) is only next week so he will be unable to make a Steve-jobs-like entrance onto the stage and set a new tone for the organization.

Apple is the most criticised brand in the blogosphere, according to research into consumer attitudes toward brands on the web.

Research by social media analystBrandwatch found that Apple is the brand most commonly linked to the descriptor '#fail'. The negative hashtag originated on Twitter, but it has gained widespread use across the internet among consumers venting their spleen about companies that have fallen short of their expectations.

In the past month, Apple was mentioned 1204 times in Twitter messages containing the hashtag. The majority were directed at the Apple brand generally, while others contained specific complaints about its products - the iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Brandwatch said mentions of Apple on other blogging sites included hundreds of gripes about the iPhone4's allegedly poor reception. The research showed that the most complained about brands online are those in the communication and technology sectors. Specifically on Twitter, Facebook was the second-most complained about brand.Nokia ranked third, while the BBC was fourth. Complaints about the broadcaster related to its service generally, as well as its programmes.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone With Jailbreakme

 iPhone, jailbreak, Technology     No comments

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone With Jailbreakme

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Recently, the US copyright law has been modified to make it legal to hack (jailbreak) smartphones such as the iPhone to switch telecommunications service providers or to install applications without Apple's approval.[1] But is it worth it? Many people who have never had their phone jail broken before can now do so. Don't be afraid to try it out now because this is possible. But there are caveats.

  Steps

  1. Do a back-up from your iPhone. Before you jailbreak your phone, be sure to sync with iTunes to back your phone up. This is just in case anything goes wrong.
  2. On your iPhone, open the browser. Tap in the site jailbreakme at http://jailbreakme.com and press "Go".
  3. Slide the "slide to jailbreak" slide. Wait until your device downloads the jailbreak application. How long this will take depends on how fast your connection is; it can take up to five minutes.
    • Once you see that the app "Cydia" is installed on your device, your device has been jail broken. It will appear as a pop-up.
  4. Press "OK" and you will return to your springboard. Cydia will now appear there alongside your other apps. You are now free to download unapproved apps and tweaks not officially approved by Apple.
  5. If you encounter any problems, try to reboot your device. In the worst-case scenario, you can always restore your device with iTunes and jail break again.

  Video

A video demonstration of jailbreaking your iPhone.

  Tips

  • It has been advised to first update your device to iOS 4.0.1 before attempting to jailbreak with Jailbreakme. The older versions could give you some trouble.
  • Using jailbreakme.com, a free browser-based jailbreak system, you only have to visit the site and voilĂ , your iPhone is jailbroken. This method works for all iPhones and iPod touch on iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0 en 4.0.1; and for the iPad on iOS 3.2 and 3.2.1.

  Warnings

  • As always, be careful if you jailbreak your device, Apple can and will revoke any warranty if your device crashes after it has been jail broken.[2]
  • Service providers purchase the rights to certain features on phones bearing their logos. Not all features of your phone may work on another provider's network. Consider the risks and you may find yourself losing money- and features.
  • This method uses an exploit of a security hole in the iPhone's web browser, which will undoubtedly be patched by Apple in the next release.
  • As with all "jailbreaks" there is a risk that something may go wrong which could "brick" your phone (make it inoperable). Your warranty will not cover this, leaving you with little more than an expensive "brick", hence the term.
  • You should be tech-savvy enough to keep up with the methods of updating your phone and what will and won't cause problems for you- such as attempting updates to iTunes or your iPhone.
  • Be aware that jailbreaking your phone will allow you to run apps that have not been "approved"- this also includes malware and virus apps.
  • While this method is not malicious, there are malware-spreading campaigns preying on people looking to jailbreak their phones.See this article for example

Hands-free tech for twiteratti while driving

AppLink, Ford, iPhone, Technology     No comments

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun...Image via CrunchBase
LONDON: British motorists would soon be able to use online blogging network Twitter while driving with new hands-free technology from car company Ford.

The system, called AppLink, allows applications on iPhones and BlackBerries to be voice-controlled, reports dailymail.co.uk.

It reads 'tweet' updates out loud while the car is on the move - but does not allow the driver to respond.

This is all controlled by Ford's SYNC system - a hands-free technology that is also capable of reading out text messages and uses voice recognition to select specific songs from an MP3 player.

It was created after a study, from Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, in America, revealed the dangers of driver inattention.

Research suggested that being distracted for a matter of seconds is a factor in a staggering 80 percent of accidents.

iPhone jailbreak becomes legal

 iPhone, News, Technology     No comments

Image representing iPhone 3G as depicted in Cr...Image via CrunchBase
WASHINGTON: New government rules announced on Monday will allow iPhone users to unlock, or "jailbreak," their phones without violating the law.

The amendments to the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act will allow users to run third-party applications on their iPhones that have not been approved by Apple.

Apple had objected to the changes, stating that the running of unauthorized programmes on the popular mobile device could lead to potential problems with the smartphone.

But the company will still be allowed to outlaw such actions on the terms of service agreements that users must sign when buying the phone.

The decision by the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress also allows consumers to unlock other mobile phones to run third party applications and to enable the devices to work with multiple carriers.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, which pressed the Copyright Office to relax its rules on mobile phone use, welcomed the move saying that the new rulings take "unprecedented new strides towards protecting more consumers and artists."

iPhone naked Apps: see people naked from your iphone

 iPhone, Technology     No comments

People need many things right now, but surely nothing more than the ability to spontaneously see through the clothing of another.

You know this is true. So do the other-oriented folks at Presselite. For they want you to share their pride in an application creation called Nude It, which was approved by the Apple store Komsomol Tuesday.
Antoine Morcos, co-founder of Presselite, admitted in a press release that the creators' inspiration in the development of this astounding technology came from the WhoIsTheBaldGuyBlog. I have embedded a YouTube video in order to give you some relief from feeling that you inhabit a strange planet called Nexus One.

In essence, the pleasure you will get from Nude It may well rival what you felt when you were 7 and took a gullible elementary school pupil into the restroom, placed their head in the toilet bowl, and asked them if they've ever seen the blue goldfish.

The makers do warn that you should clearly see your subject's face on the screen before you activate their embarrassment.

I am concerned, though, by the images that Presselite has included as an example. You see, they show that Nude It merely reveals people in their underpants. The general method males use for this purpose is to find a lady friend with whom they can wander into any of the increasingly liberal changing rooms of our major retail stores.

Still, I know many of you will be rushing to experience this new tool and that several of you will soon have pressing appointments with your Human Resources department.
