Letter from Balakrishna to Mr. Bill Gates

Subject: Problems with my new computer

Dear Mr. Bill Gates,

We have bought a computer for our home and we have found some problems, which I want to bring to your notice:

1. There is a button 'start' but there is no 'stop' button. We request you to check this.

2. One doubt is whether any re-scooter is available in system? I find only re-cycle, but I own a scooter at my home.

Microsoft Launched Internet Explorer 9

Internet Explorer, Microsoft, Technology     No comments

Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to mark the launch of the open beta for Internet Explorer 9, a web browser the company promises will “beautify the web.”
The IE9 beta launches today here at the Design Concourse Center in San Francisco with a major gala that includes hundreds of developers, journalists and Microsoft employees, as well as a live band playing on pedestals in the lobby.
“The browser is a stage. It is the backdrop of the web,” said Corporate Vice President of Internet Explorer Dean Hachamovitch.
Microsoft says that IE9 is a reinvention of the browser. It not only includes greater HTML5 and web standard compliance, but also the ability to turn any website into an application on the Windows taskbar. Thee websites are pinned to the taskbar, providing users with a one-click option to a their favorite websites. It also includes Windows 7’s jump lists; any website that supports them will provide a quick menu to its most popular webpages.
The focus of IE9 is on the “regular consumer,” which may irk those of us who generally have more than 10 or 20 tabs open at any given time. Tabs appear on the right side of the address bar, decreasing the amount of real-estate for tabs. To help decrease tab overload, they are grouped based on different websites within the taskbar

Microsoft's Arc Touch Mouse is some crazy cool technology! The Arc is designed to flatten for portability and pop up for comfort. It features a touch scroll strip allowing you to navigate with the touch of a finger.

Microsoft kills off social web application "Vine"

Facebook, Microsoft, Social Media, Technology     No comments

Microsoft said on Friday that it will discontinue its Vine beta service on October 11.
In an email to testers, Microsoft said the Vine beta had received positive feedback but that the company had taken the decision to shutter the service. "The decision to discontinue future development of Microsoft Vine was not easily made. Multiple options were thoroughly explored and evaluated with rigor and in the end it was determined that Microsoft Vine is not sustainable as a standalone offering."

Microsoft originally unveiled Vine, its Twitter for emergencies, back in April 2009. Microsoft mainly marketed the product to emergency management officials. The software was a desktop client for Windows which allowed users to post information to it via e-mail or SMS. The application gathered local news from 20,000 sources and displayed it on a map. Like Twitter it allowed you to post short updates named alerts. Microsoft had originally planned to integrate Vine with Facebook and the social networking service, Twitter.

The departure of Vine marks another web casualty for the software giant. Microsoft killed off the Popfly web application in July 2009 and the Soapbox MSN video service a couple of months later. Recently, the software giant killed off its Kin range of Windows Phone handsets after only three months of sales.

Nokia is changing CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasavuo, who was not capable to address the phone-maker's loss of the smartphone crown so far. Stephen Elop, who worked with Microsoft Corp, is joining Nokia in the place of Olli-Pekka Kallasavuo. Nokia couldn't compete with iPhone, Android, RIM in making of smartphones in last 5 years.

Mr.Elop said "My role as leader of Nokia is to lead this team through the period of change, take the organization through this period of disruption…to meet the needs of its customers, while delivering superior financial performance,” Mr. Elop said at a news conference in Helsinki, reports the WSJ" in Helsinki.

Mr.Elop was working in Microsoft Corp as a Head of business division. He starts on September 21, at a tricky time – Nokia World  (the firm’s annual talkfest London) is only next week so he will be unable to make a Steve-jobs-like entrance onto the stage and set a new tone for the organization.
