The Mozilla Seabird Phone was unveiled just recently on the Mozilla Labs blog. This is part of the Concept series project launched by Mozilla labs that intends to encourage interested contributors to share their ideas, expertise and vision for what the future of Mozilla, Firefox and the Web will be like.
Apparently, the Mozilla Seabird Phone is an Android-based concept phone that has been built around the idea of having an open web. This concept was created by Billy May, a member of the Mozilla community and an award winning product designer for electronics.
It is quite noticeable that the Mozilla Seabird phone comes in an unusual shape, which basically looks like an upside down raindrop. It also offers a new input method as well. Located at the back of the device is a dongle that allows 3D and gesture input as well as haptic clicking. This dongle serves both as an earpiece and a controller for the phone.
In addition to these aforementioned specs, the Mozilla Seabird phone also comes with the following features:
- An 8 megapixel camera
- Dual side Pico projectors that allows its user to display a virtual keyboard
- Wireless charging
- A detachable embedded Bluetooth dongle
- Mini USB which will allow for direct connection to PC
- Infrared Touchpad Area
Basically, the Mozilla Seabird creates a set up that is quite typical to that of the PC. It also incorporates a type of technology that is very possible to work well with mobile phones. However, Mozilla has no intention of developing this phone at the moment since its main focus lies with software development and not with hardware. But this open web concept for phones will surely be coming its way into new phones in the future since it promises a lot of interesting features to look forward to.
The Mozilla Seabird concept phone promises to change the mobile phone world. It introduces few possibilities into how mobile phone users will interact with their mobile phone content. But since Mozilla has no plans of bringing this phone into reality, let us just hope that this concept will inspire other manufacturers to come up with better and more improved phones in the future.
