Bing Rewards is a new program announced by Microsoft that allows users to earn credits for doing some actions like searching, setting Bing as homepage, and testing the new features of Bing. If more users perform these actions, the more credits they will get.
But you must download the Bing Bar for IE to your Windows OS and you have to signup with Windows Live ID.
Bing gives these rewards same as any loyalty rewards program just like credit cards reward pints program. BUy more stuff and complete some tasks get more rewards. This program is clearly the successor to Bing Cashback program. This program was stopped in June and it is officially closed on July 30th.
We were hoping that Cashback would be the end of Microsoft trying to (directly) buy users, but it looks like that was hoping for too much. While the program seems like a decent enough concept, we just don't think people treat search like they do their credit cards. Are thousands or millions of people really going to switch from Google and install a god-awful toolbar just so they can get a Zune?
By introducing this kind of programs Bing is going to compete with Google. To get Rewards users usually download the Bing Bar, if they do not have Windows Live ID, they will create it. Such a way Bing is trying to get more users and trying to cross the Google all the way.
Is it possible for Bing to get more users than Google? Please put your opinion in comments section.
