Trivikram Sreenivas
His name needs no introduction. This column is all about this latest brand for DIALOGUE WRITING, a great friend for many, the Guruji of numerous Eklavya sishyas and the most unaccessible person.
- He did his schooling and Intermediate in Bhimavaram.
- Trivikram and Sunil are great childhood friends.
- Trivikram, Sunil (Comedian), Abburi Ravi (Dialogue writer of Bommarillu) were classmates in 9th class.
- Trivikram, Sunil and RP did Msc in Andhra University. RP and Trivikram studied Nuclear Physics and Sunil did Masters in Theatre Arts (Not sure). Trivikram was a gold medalist in Nuclear Physics.
- He taught Physics in HOLY Angels Bhimavaram for some time. He was very much admired for his excellent teaching skills.
- Sunil and Trivikram share great rapport. It was Sunil who had great interest in films. His house was just opposite to a film theatre in Bhimavaram. He used to listen to the sounds from the theatre at nights and dream big about films. He was a very good dancer. He was known for his “Aaj Kaa Goondaa Raaj” title song steps (”Gangleader” in Telugu). Sunil lost his father at a very tender age and from then his mother was everything to him. When he expressed his ambition of getting into films, his mother gave her nod by saying that, “When you get married and take your wife to a film. Then you should not be in a position pointing the screen and saying that I had to be there but I’m here now.” and encouraged him to chaze his dreams. He sold out his bike for around 15K rupees and landed in Hyderabad. He was trying to enter in films by getting some chance in dance department. The first month he enjoyed with Biryanis…etc and after this Jalsa phase, he realized that getting chances is not that easy. Meanwhile the amount he got from his home evaporated and from then the real “cinema kastaalu” started. There were days when for even Rs 2/- bus ticket, Sunil used to say ‘Pass’ in RTC buses and when if any conductor asked him to show the pass, he used to get down immediately in the next bus stop as he never had Bus Pass. Facing such bitter consequences, he felt that he alone can’t sail through these phase. So he returned Bhimavaram. This time he forced Trivikram and got him too. They both together started the hunt for chances. This gradually helped him in developing an interesting friend’s gang.
- Trivikram, Sunil, RP, Chandra Siddartha(Appudappudu,Aa naluguru, Madhumasam…fame), Dasaradh (Santosham, Swagatham), Gopi Mohan(Famous Screenplay writer), Venu(hero)..etc guys formed as a good team of friends. There’s was a very good wannabes batch and most interesting thing is that most of them have shown their mark in telugu fim industry. It shows how a good team of friends can help themselves and shine in their lives. They all used to gather in a cafe related to Chandra Siddhartha called “TRY LUCK” and used to discuss various things related to films. Incidentally after closing down this cafe only every one of them started getting chances and they clicked in a big way later on.
- RP Patnaik had the aim of cracking civils. He came to hyd for that purpose. He joined Trivikram, Sunil’s room and stayed there for many days. Gopi Mohan also stayed with them in their room for some days before he moved to a separate room with Veeru Potla(Writer of Nuvvostanante Nenoddantaanaa).
- Trivikram feels that this house in which they stayed is a lucky mascot for them. He didn’t leave it and he still uses it for his story writing, discussions and for all of his creative works. It is in Punjagutta.
- RP in their Andhra University days was very much interested in Cultural activities. Once he performed a blind man’s role in a skit and got good recognition. Next day Sunil made friends with him.
- In the initial days of struggling he used to take home tuitions for getting pocket money. He taught comedian Gautam Raju’s children and with this association he could get some contacts through Gautam Raju in film Industry.
- Trivikram worked as assistant under Posani Krishna Murali. He was the highest paid assistant. Akula Siva(Krishna, Lakshmi movie’s writer) was his colleague at that time.
- Trivikram was the highest paid writer before he became director himself.
- Trivikram took 9 months for writing “Chirunavvutho” script for which he got Nandi award.
- I’ve read in one of his interviews that the reason behind adding the prefix ‘Trivikram’ in his name was: When he was thinking of rehashing his name, as there were already many ‘Srinivas’es in the industry, it was his grandfather who casually said that he should become “Trivikram” in his field. He liked it immensely and thought that Trivikram Srinivas would be nice and he used it from then onwards.
- I’ve heard that he likes his name to be referred as “Trivikram Sreenivas” instead of “Trivikram Srinivas”.
- Apart from being an ikon in his arena, he is a very good friend to many. Sunil who is a close associate of him, dedicates his complete success to Trivikram as without him, his entry into films was almost impossible. Trivikram lays extreme confidence in his friends. Sunil said that Trivikram used to give even suitcase with cash to him to keep somewhere. He is too sentimental about Trivikram. He rates him very high. In one of his interviews he said that he faced three major accidents in his life and in all these occasions the person whom he saw when he opened his eyes was Trivikram !!!. They even married on the same day. Trivikram married Sirivennela Seeta Rama Sastry’s elder brother’s daughter. It is because of this close association that Trivikram who knew Sunil’s body language, dialogue delivery could write some fantastic comic scenes and characterizations to Sunil which paved way for him to get established as a promising new era comedian.
- Abburi Ravi, dialogue writer of movies like Bommarillu, is also a close associate of Trivikram. It was Trivikram who probed Ravi to enter as dialogue writer. Initially Abburi Ravi was scared of film industry on seeing the hardwork that Trivikram used to put for films. He used to go in the early mornings and return in late nights. Trivikram had no personal life at all. But Trivikram convinced Ravi and took him as assistant for his maiden directorial film “Nuvve Nuvve”.
- Trivikram, Abburi Ravi helped their friend Sunil in his maiden film as Hero – “Andala Ramudu” in providing fine punches.
- “veeDu youth EnTi raa” dialogue origin took place funnily. Once when Dasari Narayana Rao was looking for fresh artists, Sunil and Trivikram went to approach him. There they found a 40 year old man, who said “nEnu select ayipOtaa ..ika mana youthdE antaa” with them. Immediately Trivikram told “ay baaboi…veeDu youth EnTiraa ???”
- Trivikram used to watches movies often pretty normally as an average movie goer in theatres but seldom recognized him.
- While almost all technicians and actors are trying hard to get focussed in the various’ telugu channels to promote their films, giving their experiences, interviews..all round the clock. Trivikram stays away from all of it. He is keen on speaking thru his work alone. He is also not interested in disclosing the troubles he faced in entering film industry. It is true that he used to tell parttime tuitions to get some pocket money. It is said that Trivikram was a master in teaching any content meaningfully with easy examples. He did face many problems in entering industry but when he did it the whole industry turned towards him. It is truly an astonishing feat because as far as I know there was none who could drag such interest from viewers towards the DIALOGUE WRITING department. Kudos to him in this regard.
