The tech fest began with a performance by homegrown rock band Agnee that had composed a song Mastiyon ki application tu abhi bhar de (Fill up the application form of fun) as the theme song for the event. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer walked in to the accompaniment of rock music as the audience gave a rousing applause.
Asked what he had learnt from the economic slowdown, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said, ?The lesson is that it pretty much happens once-in-a-lifetime but the bad news is that the next generation won?t learn anything from this generation.? Talking of Vista, the much hyped Microsoft operating system that failed to click with users, Ballmer said, ?Vista was much popular, or should I say much talked about?? As the audience laughed, he quipped, ?That pretty much says it.?
?The next 10 years will see greater innovation in search technology than the last decade. An average search in English has 2.2 words. If you add more words, you get worse results. We should be able to do more with search,? Ballmer said. In response to a query from an audience member on great leaders, Ballmer quoted billionaire investor Warren Buffett who said, ?When a great leader meets a bad business, the business usually wins.? The Microsoft chief said great missions without great leaders will often fail but a great leader can turn around bad missions. He added that there is a lot of emphasis on great leaders of men and not enough on great leaders of ideas.
